Question: Why do I need weekly pool service?
Answer: Like any major
investment in your life, there will come occasional maintenance whether
the investment is a house, a car, a family, etc. This is a sort of
contract that you make with anything that you care about, and it is
certainly a responsibility that comes with ownership. Your pool and spa
are no different: they cost a lot of money to install, they are
extremely enjoyable, and in order to avoid problems in the future they
must be properly taken care of, especially when not in use.
Question: Why should I choose On Demand as my weekly pool service provider?
Answer: Because we are
committed to providing the best service in the industry, bar none. The
ability of you and your guests to enjoy your swimming pool and spa
today, and for years to come, is our utmost priority. On Demand
Pool Service offers flexible weekly service plans, routine maintenance,
major repair service, tile/plaster cleaning, as well as one time
maintenance should a monsoon happen to blow in the night before your
big BBQ. The real question is, why wouldn't you choose On Demand
Pool Service?
Question: No one will be using our pool during the winter months, do I still need to maintain it?
Answer: Absolutely! Not
maintaining proper chemistry in your pool water can damage your pool
surface, steps, sides, and tile that can be costly to repair.
Additionally, unbalanced water can also lead to corrosion of your pool
equipment. Maintaining the chemical balance of your water is an
inexpensive way to avoid expensive problems down the road.
Question: What causes the chemical levels in my pool to fluctuate?
Answer: pH and Chlorine levels
are affected by bather load, sun, rain, and alkalinity. These levels
must be maintained to keep your pool chemistry properly balanced and
sanitized. Doing so will not only help ensure a safe and enjoyable
swimming environment, but will also prevent algae growth and cloudy
water.
Question: Swimmers in our pool complained of irritated skin and eyes, does this mean that the Chlorine level is too high?
Answer: Eye and skin irritation
can be caused by high Chlorine levels, but it can also be caused by
other chemical imbalances. A pH level that is too high, or too low can
also cause similar symptoms. A visit by an On Demand
Pool Professional can ensure that your pool is properly balanced for
its water volume and bather load.
Question: My pool water is murky and/or colored. What causes this, and is this serious?
Answer: Murky or colored water
usually means that your pool chemistry is being affected by improper
filtration or lack of proper chemical balancing. A visit from
an On Demand Pool Professional can quickly help identify and
resolve the issue. In both cases, if the root cause is not identified
and treated quickly, the condition of the pool water can continue to
deteriorate, resulting in algae, green water, and potentially
tile/plaster staining, and plumbing damage.
Question: I have weekly pool service, do I still need to do anything to maintain my pool in between visits?
Answer: Yes,
it is recommended that leaves and other debris not removed from the
surface of the pool by your skimmer or automated pool cleaner be
removed as soon as is possible. Leaves and other debris will eventually
become water logged and sink to the bottom of your pool and many types
of organic debris can cause staining. Additionally, any and all matter
(including swimmers!) that enter your pool have an immediate effect on
the chemical balance of your water.
Additionally, during monsoon season in Arizona, skimmers and
automatic cleaners work overtime to remove all of the leaves and debris
blown around our neighborhoods by storms that in some cases occur
nightly. It is important during this time of year to keep an eye on
your filter and skimmer baskets in between visits from your pool
technician. As these baskets fill up, the amount of suction from your
pump can decrease thereby reducing the proper circulation and
filtration of your pool water.
Question: How long should I run my swimming pool filtration system?
Answer: There is no perfect
answer to this question. The answer will depend on your specific pool,
as well as the bather load, and the amount of trees, and other plants
near the pool. As a general rule, 12 hours during the summer months,
and 8 hours during the winter months. An On Demand
Pool Professional can help determine the proper filtration system
timing for your pools specific filtration needs.
Question: My pool pump is making noises, what should I do?
Answer: First, turn off the
pool filtration system from the breaker (not the timer). Secondly,
call On Demand Pool Service right away! An On Demand Pool Professional can help identify, and resolve the root cause of the
problem. Filtration issues need to be resolved quickly, especially
during summer months. A pool not receiving proper circulation (thus
affecting chemical balance) can turn swampy green in just a few days!
Question: I was advised to put shock in my pool, how long should I wait before swimming after the shock has been added?
Answer: Generally 4-6 hours should allow plenty of time for the shock to dissolve and begin working it's magic.
Question: How can I tell if I have algae?
Answer: Algae comes in many
colors. A green or orange tint to the sides of your pool, or cloudy
water can indicate the beginnings of an algae bloom. Additionally
algae, once started, loves to attach to the plastic surrounding your
skimmer basket. Black algae is another form to be concerned with. Black
spots, on your steps, walls, or inside plastic hoses attached to
automatic cleaners can indicate the beginnings of an algae bloom.
Question: What causes Algae?
Answer: Algae spores exist
everywhere. They can be blown into your pool by wind, washed into the
pool by rainfall, can be caused by low Chlorine levels, or by improper
filtration (i.e. clogged skimmer baskets, or dirty/damaged filters).
Leaves and dirt left on the bottom or sides of your pool can also cause
algae growth as well as pool surface staining. In an extremely dirty
pool, algae will continue to bloom even if the water chemistry is
correctly balanced.
Question: I think I might have an algae problem, what should I do?
Answer: Give us a call! On Demand Pool Service will test your water chemistry and filtration
equipment to isolate and resolve the issue quickly before the algae
continues to spread.
